Attention: fraud involving physical shipments on behalf of DPD

Recently, there have been cases of fraud in Latvia involving real courier services and genuine couriers being used to deceive people and steal money.

It is important to emphasize that DPD, as a delivery company, is not a fraudster in these cases. The fraud takes place by exploiting the fact that it is possible to arrange for cash on delivery shipments in the delivery system.

How does this fraud scheme work?

The fraudster registers a shipment with cash on delivery and specifies a random recipient.
The DPD courier delivers the package to the specified person, completely legally.
The recipient, thinking that this is an order or an expected delivery, pays the courier.
After opening the shipment, it turns out that the package does not contain the ordered goods - it may be empty or contain worthless items.

In this case, the money goes to the fraudster, not to the courier or DPD.

How to protect yourself?

To avoid such situations, we recommend that you follow these safety tips:

• Never pay for a shipment if you do not remember placing an order.
• Before paying, always check:

1. which store the shipment was sent from;
2. whether you have an order confirmation in your email;
3. whether the amount corresponds to what you ordered.

• If in doubt, you have the right to refuse the shipment.
• The courier is not responsible for the contents of the shipment - they only deliver the package.
